Hechtsee lake is the largest bathing lake around Kufstein. Furthermore, you find Egelsee lake, Längsee lake and Pfrillsee lake, all of them nearby. A bit farer away, but within walking distance, there are two more lakes worthwhile visiting, Stimmersee lake and Thiersee lake. All of them can easily be reached on hiking trails. You could start your tour right at Hechtsee lake, following the trail along its scenic lakeside.

LEGENDS HECHTSEE LAKE.

According to tradition, there are two legends about Hechtsee lake. For one thing the one that tells us the story about how Hechtsee lake come into existence. One will still be surprised …

For another thing people used to tell tales about a mermaid, that is supposed to live in the Hechtsee lake. But she turns up very seldom, or better yet, she never does. And I do not know anyone, who was lucky enough to see the mermaid. But figure it out, there is, indeed, a legend about this mermaid, called Hechta.

THE PIKE IN HECHTSEE LAKE

FISHING & ANGLING.

Does the pike really occur in Hechtsee lake? Of course, it does, beside other species highly coveted with fishermen. Fishing season starts as soon as the lake is free from ice, mostly in March. For details on fishing permits and more, please visit the website of the fishing community.

BATHING

SWIMMING IN HECHTSEE LAKE.

Some “Kufsteiners” are not able to imagine summer without a pike dive into this lake. Once you have immersed yourself into the lake, you will prove them right.  Is it any wonder at water temperatures of about 24° C and waters of outstanding quality? In the public swimming bath boardwalks and stairs provide an easy access into the water, and people with disabilities can make use of adequate facilities for a bath day without restraint. In the large sunbathing area you can find your right place, trees may offer you shelter from the sun on hot summer days.
